Since the gazebo is to stand between the house with a gable roof and a modern garage, its design can be adapted to the choice of location. The windward front, where the side wall acts as a windbreak, the intimacy from the neighbours, the sun, the additional footing due to the mud of the gently sloping terrain of the colder part of the landscape had to be taken into account.

Gazebo placement options
The owners' original idea was to use the existing square brick area to place a gazebo in the middle of the property, a short distance from the stone retaining wall. Since this was not an ideal location from my perspective (unusable space between the gazebo and the wall, impractical square footprint too close to the house creating a "tunnel" on the property, which in addition to its mass overwhelms the central space), in addition to working out the desired idea, I proposed 3 other options.

Gazebo options with flat roof
If the gazebo were in the centre of the plot, i.e. in the direction of the view of the garage, then a more modern design can be assigned to it in line with the garage and this view will have a longer lasting effect, even during the winter.

The alternative of a side gazebo with a gable roof and options
If the gazebo were to be on the side, leaving the central space of the lot open, it would be appropriate to assign a gable roof to the gazebo due to the close proximity of the house to the gable roof.

This is just a small sample of the myriad of many possible solutions in order to choose the best solution.
